Friends in Chiang Mai

If you are a global nomad or an expat, you will definitely know the feeling of missing home. Even though, home isn’t really home and you don’t know what else to call it. I miss Switzerland today. The efficient medical system, public transport, hanging out and drinking coffee at any of my brothers place, visiting my parents, visiting a classical concert and now I would so like to go to the Opera, and I’d love to go shopping in Bern etc . I miss PNG a little, and the beautiful jungle, starry nights, and flying. But I’m glad I live in Chiang Mai. Its a perfect place for a global nomad. I’ve got great friends from many countries, some who I make music with, who I laugh and cry with, who keep telling me to shut up when I need to hear it. Friends who care enough to be honest and let ‘the shit hit the fan’ , cancel meetings and talk things through. Friends who forgive me when I’ve hurt them. At the end of the day that is what we need isn’t it? To love and to be loved. Be it at home or at home in another country . .

I use to live close to Papau New Guinea. I lived in Guadacanal, Solomon Islands for a year and a half. That was a very long time ago before the civil war broke out. That part of the world is certainly beautiful. I could have lived without the mosquitoes though!
“To love and to be loved”
So true.
Reading your post made me think about home - It’s weired with me, as soon as I’m home (UK) I want to get back to Bangkok. When I’m in Bangkok I have moments when I want to go home! Strange hey?
Great article… very interesting blog. How did you end up in Thailand?

As being one who is far away from home, I think we always think of our family (home (or our comfort zone)), whenever we have bad days. I don’t think it’s about the place where we live matters, but it’s the people arround us that matter.
Sometimes , I face the same situation too , but I agree with you the people around you makes your day and even more challenging if you have no one to turn too whenever you feel you need the person most..that was went the moment ..” I wana go hommeeee “
I like to be a stranger… I don’t really miss home.
