Christmas in paradise.. new traditions!
Dec 13th, 2007 by Lillian

… Is it too early to start thinking about the Christmas gifts? hmmmm Should I write cards? Don’t think so. After all its not my culture. Thats the cool thing of being a global nomad or an expat. You just take on the culture you which is most convenient OR you make up your own. Well, in ”my” culture, you don’t write cards. Sorry all of you, who are hoping for a Christmas card from Thailand. Hmmm, what about Christmas cookies? Cookies??! Not ”my” culture either but I’m sure I’ll have to make at least one batch with my kids… Oh traditions. The christmas tree us up, the nativity set and the ‘Adventskranz’ are out. Bit later than the Americans and Aussies, but much earlier than the Germans and Swiss… Traditions. I love and hate them !

Traditionally, Thailand does presents on New Year’s Day–new things for the new year. My household did Christmas so we’d get to open the presents from “santa claus” only on Christmas Day, and the rest from other people on New Year’s Day.
So, I do Christmas. It’s still Thai tradition…just a few days earlier. LOL. Ditto with cards.
ja, die lieben traditionen! auf der einen seite so mühsam wie sich der mensch daran festklammert und auf der anderen seite manchmal doch auch eine hilfe eine art rückhalt in gewissen situationen!
