We're just back from 2 weeks in Thailand. One week in Bangkok and one in Krabi. One trick that worked for me was to hold an iced drink against the inside of my wrist (where you would normally take your pulse). This actually cools down the blood as it flows through and is surprisingly effective. It is also a good excuse to order that extra large iced coffee . We are regular visitors to Thailand as our son works in Bangkok. I have been reading and enjoying your blog posts for a couple of years now. Thanks for keeping it going.

Cut your short for the hot season. And lots of green leafy plants in the house. It just makes everything seem more fresh + cool.

The mall tricks work well globally actually. Over a year ago, the old a/c in the apartment went unfixed. To escape Southern California heat, most folks hit the beaches. Not wanting to deal with the crowd and parking, Brandon and I found ourselves driving from mall to mall, even *gasp* Wal-Mart, to find a place to cool off. We bought a new a/c ourselves since the management doesn't seem too keen on getting the darn thing fixed. Heh.

Thankfully the hot season is the shortest one...here in the North of Thailand anyway.....
When doing scuba diving I learnt about heat loss.... and that the important areas to keep covered are the neck and head.....so using that in reverse....as well as frequent showers, just a wipe with a wet flannel on face and neck, then leave the flannel on my head, in a room with the fan running (no A/C in my home)..
outside, one of those caps with a neckshade, soaked in water and lightly sqeezed, does the job.....
I hate sleeping in an A/C room, it stuffs up my sinuses

Great post Lillian... I have been gradually losing my mind over the last 2 weeks thanks to the heat. This is my third year in Thailand but I don't remember it getting to me so much! I even read recently that there's a huge increase in Psychiatric hospital admissions in Thailand in April. I can relate to that ;-)

Something I have started doing when I get too hot is lying downstairs in our house on the cool tiled floor. We have a cat, and the cat stopped sitting on the sofa and started sprawling on the floor. I copied it. Animals are evidently one step ahead.
