To throw or not to throw..
Jun 14th, 2008 by Lillian
So, as most of you know there is a big trash/rubbish problem in Chiang Mai. Some go as far as to call CM the stinky rose of the north. Rubbish gets collected and separated and some recycled, most burnt on the spot. In our mubahn the collectors come round more than once daily and collect whatever you leave outside your house. It gets taken to a dump a few streets down from where we live. Others take their trash and throw it along the super highway. The river usually has trash in it, and there are some areas which are sort of no-mans land, where trash gets dumped.
As all good mothers I’ve been teaching my children not to throw trash out of the car window, not to litter etc . My oh so clever daughter said, mummy whats the difference if we throw it out or if the rubbish collectors drop the bags along the road. <sigh> So true, there is no difference at all ! Except that you might hit someone while throwing it out of a car, AND its just a good habit to throw trash in the bin and not anywhere….
