Papua New Guinea on TV
Sep 11th, 2008 by Lillian
We watched a documentation on PNG last night. Two white men went into the Mek Tribe in Western Province and became part of the tribe.. in 3 months. The doc was interesting and the my kids kept asking did you grow up like that etc. My past is quite hard to explain, even to children who grow up in Thailand….Its like my life was someone elses life except I know it really well. Strange…Talk about not belonging huh?!! I grew up there and yet I don’t have one single friend Papua New Guinean friend.. sad…

Now how did you manage to do that? - Grow up in PNG and not have a single PNG friend?
Tavurvur…I moved to another country, actually another continent before there was email and skype.. and got older and never went back. Thats how easy…
It is indeed very easy to do - even for young people like me
I lived in the US for the first 8 years of my life and left just before the average person had a computer at home - so I have only managed to get in touch with 1 person from those first 8 years of my life. It is sad, and hard to accept that all those friendships just vanish, but I guess that’s just a part of our lifestyle - one of the major downsides of it. Even when you do stay in touch, e-mailing each other just isn’t the same as talking face to face.
