WEATHER this week in Chiang Mai
May 27th, 2005 by Lillian
Its hot season at the moment. That means its usually 38 C (in the shade). What I really don’t like is getting into my car after 10 am. The car is SOOO hot, I can’t sit on the seat or hold the steering wheel. So, I do what shocks all my European friends, I let the car run a few minutes before I get in. I’ve tried it the other way, honest, but its to painful and just way to HOT.
When its hot you would think that the best place to be, would be the pool. We haven’t been to the pool for a while. Mainly because the water heats up. that its like swimming in the toddlers pool. Warm , way to warm. So how do we cope? Well, we have fans in every room. It can be a bit annoying because you have to put weight on all your papers because otherwise they get blown away. All the windows are open and because its dry, the house gets very dusty. A lot of people get asthma in hot season. Especially when there’s no wind. The smog just builds up and builds up. We have weeks when we can’t see the sun because of the smog. This year was quite good, I think. We had rain every couple of weeks which really cleaned the air. Another way to beat the heat is air-cons. We have them and use them when it gets too hot . The houses are not insulated so it can only cool down a bit. Another thing we do is go to the mall. I’ll write about mall another time, quite an experience after all the little, cute, neat shops in Switzerland ! Its cool in the mall.
AND, what you do in hot season is move slowly. Thai people are very relaxed. Sometimes can’t believe how slowly they work. But come hot season, I understand. Anyone who moves to fast will just get tired or die of overheating lol. Like a car engine, starts steaming then overheating then it breaks down. Rushing around in hot season is definately bad for your health.
One more thing we do is shower three times a day. Get dressed while you are still wet so you feel cool a few minutes longer
