I was at a party last night. The person left to me has a coffee plantation and wants to sell me coffee even though she doesn’t drink it. The guy to my right has stopped drinking coffee for health reasons. He can think clearer and doesn’t get as agitated. So, I found this, this morning.
”Caffeine Acts as a Stimulant
Caffeine is a toxic stimulant. This is not natural for the body. It activates the “fight or flight” response.
It’s important to remember that the caffeine in coffee is a powerful substance. It can stimulate the central nervous system, increase heartbeat and metabolic rate, increase the secretion of stomach acid, and step up secretion of stomach acid, and step up kidney and bladder action. It’s also well known for its annoying ability to affect sleep.i
The article goes on to say that in higher doses, caffeine can cause “coffee nerves”—a wide assortment of symptoms including anxiety, irritability, headaches, light-headedness, nausea, and diarrhea.ii
Coffee can cause a temporary increase in blood sugar, but it is quickly followed by a decrease, and stimulates the release of adrenaline, which causes body tissues to be broken down into sugar and fat. Too much insulin is produced, and the blood sugar falls to a low level.
Caffeine is a Poison
Caffeine, which is the main chemical in coffee, is a powerful poison! A drop of caffeine injected into the skin of an animal will produce death within a few minutes. An infinitely small amount injected into the brain will cause convulsions. The amount of caffeine in a cup of coffee is quite small, yet we drink coffee because of the effect of the caffeine, just as we smoke because of the effect of the nicotine. Both are drugs, and both are habit-forming. Both are poisons.”.
There is more on that website .. I wonder if I could stop drinking coffee. Why would I? I don’t ” do drugs” so why not have this pleasure in life. ON the other hand, seeing I’m trying to live a healthy life, why would I drink coffee? hmmmmmmmm
what do you think? Do you drink coffee? Did you stop? and why?
I don’t drink coffee, but I do drink many of the softdrinks that are loaded with caffeine. I’m aware of the effects of caffeine so I’m trying to stop, but oh how it hurts to stop (I mean the headaches and such that occur for weeks after stopping).
I’m a coffee addict! I Love a strong espresso in the morning!
If I stopped drinking coffee, I guess I’d have to stop smoking and drinking beer, eating cream cakes… ouch! Why is all the good stuff bad for you?
Oh YEAH!!!
I am not me without a little bit of caffeine in the morning. I am my evil twin and both of us are fine with that…..
No really.
Ideally we would live our lives in a sufficiently balanced way that we didn’t need a stimulant to keep the whole machine running, but reality check? I haven’t pulled that off lately.
I don’t think I could give up my coffee, but I have been drinking way too much of it lately. My husband just passed a kidney stone (I have never seen him in so much pain in the 15 years I’ve known him) and when the doctor analyzed it he basically said it was a coffee stone. So my husband has to cut his coffee consumption WAY down and is noticing a lot of withdrawal effects.
I can’t see myself giving up my morning coffee ether … Maybe I’ll do a post on the health benefits of coffee.. just to feel better haha
Jennifer your poooooor husband !!
Hi and sawadee from Thailand
Its just so simple: coffee and alcohol (tow mention but two of many other things) are simply poison! Almost too late in life, personal circumstances very recently made me see the ‘writing on the wall’. I have totally stopped both those poisons and ……….. wow do I ever feel better for it! I used to drink very moderately and take one cup of coffee a day but now ……. life is so much better and I am so much fresher in the mornings – its good to be alive.
But you have to have sufficient motivation – the voice within as Christiana sings ………… mine came from my Thai wife who I nearly lost because of this ………… but that’s another story and we are so happy now – I can hardly believe that such a simple set of actions could make such a difference to perspectives, mobility, clarity of mind and much else.
To you all I say.. quit NOW when there is time to heal the wounds
Email me if you like, I’ll answer with pleasure
With due respect to 12-step programs (my partner has been recovering for 18 years) i believe strongly that a cup or two of coffee daily does not prevent a happy healthy balanced existence.
No addiction is healthy…. and in my own life, the search for emotional, physical, spiritual health is an ongoing journey. However it is all about balance. Extremism in any form is unhealthy.
Jackie.. I totally agree
I can’t live without coffee… and alas I know it is not very healthy…
