A short story about my son
Oct 15th, 2005 by Lillian
Last year, my son was almost 4 and there were a few a new boys in Kindergarten. He like one boy called F. My son came home and told me how he like him and how much fun they had playing. So I asked him :
"What does he look like?"
"He looks like me."
"What color skin does he have?"
LOOONG time thinking
"His LEGS look like mine."
I stopped asking because I realised that it really doesn’t matter what colour skin he has . Later I found out that the boy has an asian mum and a European dad.

I think at age 4, most children don’t focus on skin color as long as we don’t bring it to their attention. My kids used to mention clothes or hairstyles when describing another child, and wouldn’t even include skin color. Sadly, as we get older, it’s usually the first thing we notice when we look at another person.
