Laternen Fest
Nov 10th, 2005 by Lillian
”Durch die Strassen auf und nieder
leuchten die Laternen wieder,
rote, gelbe, grüne blaue
lieber Martin komm und schaue.” (one of the songs we sung

Inspite of rain and mud the ”laternen fest” was alot a success. Kindergarten, first and second grade kids had all made their own lanterns. Our youngest proudly carried his lantern and joined in the singing. Between walking we all gathered in a big circle and watched a sketch. The theme was helping others. Like Saint Martin who shared his only coat with the poor.
It looked so pretty, out in the dark, millions of stars in the sky and the little children with their lanterns. I enjoyed it
My two oldest found it a bit boring but they helped the younger ones light their candles. They would have prefered to stay home though…..

Cool! Do you celebrate the festival…can’t remember the name, but kids put pretty decorated floats lit with candles in the water…? We did that when I lived in BKK and went to ISB.
Loi Krathong? no not yet. First we celebrated the german festival.. next week the thai one.
Oh, that’s so nice that you celebrate St. Martin’s Day with your kids even in Thailand. I love those songs. My kids don’t do the Laternenumzug any more but they still want to go out and get candy for “Matten Matten Meeren”. I’m planning to do a post on this tomorrow.
Our kid started school this year so we missed out on the Kindergarten laternen fest this year, which is a shame as I was just starting to learn all the words to the songs
