Loi Krathong San Sai, Chiang Mai
Nov 13th, 2005 by Lillian
Last night I went to watch people releasing lanterns into the sky, to mark the forthcoming Loi Krathong festival. Approximately 300 lanterns or ballons were released. It was a beautiful sight. Here the first picture.

Loi Kratong Festival is on the full moon of the twelfth lunar month. Some believe the practice of this festival is to show gratitude to the river goddess. “Mae Kong Kha” some believe it is the homage to the Buddha’s footprint. But in Thailand, people nationwide will flock to the river to celebrate this festival in their unique ways such as Yi Peng Float Festival and Loi Kratong Sai.

That looks beautiful. I love festivals of light like Dipawali and Guy Fawkes and Christmas.
What a great picture! It must be quite moving to see all those lanterns going up at the same time.
