Candles instead of firecrackers
Nov 18th, 2005 by Lillian
The last two nights have sounded like we live in war zone. I won’t be sad when loi kratong is over ! Some of those firecrackers are sooo loud ! My daughter lit a matched and her ear ”rang” for a couple of hours.. poor girl. Wish everyone would stick to sparkels, hot air ballons and candles !( I must be getting old !!)

Yes, what is it about getting older and ceasing to find explosions fun! I still love fireworks though so there is hope that I’m not sliding into my geriatric years yet
That is shocking! Unbelievable thailand!
my experience with fireworks in my pre-Thailand life (i.e. in mid-Atlantic north america) was always that the fireworks were set off in a cleared-away area, not right next to the audience, in order to risk harming as few people as possible, and the local fire department always had representatives on standby right there in case of a problem.
at the loy krathong party we attended on wednesday night, they were launching fireworks from the party itself, with little kids running around, and no fire department people anywhere. i shudder just thinking of the danger.
the fireworks sure looked beautiful, though. TIT! (this is thailand!)
