Renewing our Visa…
Jan 5th, 2006 by Lillian
Between christmas and new year we had to get our visa renewed. We all have to go to immigration. Our whole family was there and my husband checked the papers before handing them to the officials. He noticed that all of our passport number were wrong. ARRRGGGH
So we all went home again and my husband went to the church office to get them corrected. The next day we all went to immigration again. This time everything went smoothly. We only had to wait 1 hour and 30 min and believe me thats fast ! The officials were really friendly, the kids behaved like angels. So, we can stay in Thailand for another year. Yipppeeeee!!!
( I had a killer headache that evening.. I just get so tense and nervous and am always VERY aware that we are guests in this country … )

Wow! Incredible that it went that quick. I mean, comparing to Germany….I wouldn’t even want to talk about it.
That was quick.
I went to the French Embassy in Zurich three weeks ago to get a Schengen visa. Alas, they said they couldn’t give me a visa in two weeks’ time which meant we had to cancel our hotel reservation in France (near Geneva). So we just spent the holidays in Biel. Oh, it’s a long story.
Hi,
It was nice to find a blog from C.M.. I love the city, eventhough the centre is filled with tourists. I stayed in Chiang Mai-province 3 months in the “spring” of 2004, when I collected data for my Masters thesis in khasi pine plantations around the province.
I renewed my visa twice during my (5 months) stay in Thailand, I crossed the border to Myanmar (Burma) to get more time for my visit. I think this is not possible anymore, is it?
greetings for Chiang mai residents!
Hi Lillian
It is fun to read your blog - did you know that I am coing soon? and I am supposed to do this crazy visa renewal EVERY MONTH… oh my!
Looking forward to seeing you all!
Elise
See you soon Elise !
Samsa.. you can still do that when you are on a tourist visa. When you live here long term its better to get another sort of visa.
Elmm……Please tell me how long it takes you !…. btw.. i
didn’t mention that my husband had to go to city hall to get his work
permit… that took up alot of time as well.
Hi Lilian - great blog. It’s my first time visiting. It’s wonderful that you did not have problems. But I do know what it feels like to be an outsider. I’ll be sure to check back in more.
Those visits to immigration are nervewracking, aren’t they? Glad you got your visa extended. I just got upgraded from a B-Pass to a C-Pass, so that’s reassuring. I even got the forms to apply for an actual passport!
