Leptospirosis in Chiang Mai….
Jan 27th, 2006 by Lillian
I’ve been wanting to write something deep and clever but I just can’t seem to focus …Yes, I ‘d like to offer my readers somthing that takes more than 2 secs to look at before they press the ‘close window’. anyway.. I can’t. My husband is really sick and probably has Leptospirosis
Here the Symptoms : In humans it causes a wide range of symptoms, and some infected persons may have no symptoms at all. Symptoms of leptospirosis include high fever, severe headache, chills, muscle aches, and vomiting, and may include jaundice (yellow skin and eyes), red eyes, abdominal pain, diarrhea, or a rash. If the disease is not treated, the patient could develop kidney damage, meningitis (inflammation of the membrane around the brain and spinal cord), liver failure, and respiratory distress. In rare cases death occurs.
Clearly the majority of high-risk sites will have rat populations and an area of fresh water.
ter).
Anyone engaged in work-related activities in contaminated sites is at risk, and as well as common activities that are known to be high-risk (sewer inspection, rodent control, garbage collection) workers must also consider the risks from general cuts and scrapes. Construction, horticulture, farming and mining all present a hazard of skin damage where there may also be contaminated water.
And everyone is worried about bird flu and tsunami in Thailand !!!
