My Thailand Diary

I was at Airport Plaza with the kids yesterday and we walked threw rows and rows of red valentine day gifts, cards, flowers, heart shaped things. Amazing how many things there are to give to that special person…. I can’t remember Valentines Day being anything special. As a kid we’d make cards for our parents.. and then later in Switzerland as a teenager it just didn’t seem to be a big deal. Actually I never received or gave anything on this day…. maybe its changed now.. I have no idea.
And now I’m in Thailand and I know its not traditionally thai culture but it sure has reached an incredible level of importance. There were masses of people buying cards, and gifts at the mall yesterday for that special person.
Am I giving anyone something? hmmmmm there are so many special people in my life where to start?!

   Nothing happening in png - a few jokes on the commercial radio station, but that’s it. Certainly no cards or special gifts! (in Goroka anyway). I remember being in India at this time in 2001; there were riots and newsagencies were attacked and trashed by demonstrators protesting against the invasion of western commercialism. Wonder if it’s different/similar now.

   I didn’t … I did think about it but the more I thought about it the angrier I got at the thought of being made to feel guilty by a greeting card consortium …

   We like Valentine’s Day around our house. I got some chocolates and some very interesting flowers and Boy) made me something special. Mr. M and Boy9 got chocolates as well (Boy12 is away until Friday)

   This valentine i really spent it alone but have a loved one who lives in pataya.I sent her flowers and a basket of more flowers with chocolats the following day .She loved them so much she told everyone that it came from my cheeky boyfriend.That was the first time ever she got flowers .In turn that same day i recieved a hand made paper pate picture of 2 beautiful blossom yellow flowers with a note saying “happy st valentines day (a short love message) and i miss you”Never met anyone as nice and considerate and loving as her.Only makes me wish i was there now.
   Lilian st valentines is a day where the man and woman validate their love for one another.Its up to the man to prepare a romantic candle lit dinner with soft music and rose petals on the floor to guide you to his heart.Well thats what i think hope i am not wrong.
