Goodbyes at the Airport
Apr 3rd, 2006 by Lillian
I’ve spent quite alot of time at Chiang Mai Airport these last 2 weeks. People arriving and leaving. Yesterday I was there for 2 hours, waiting to see Mary11 off who flew back to her parents who live in China. (she came to join my daughter at a camp last week and then stayed with us for a few days) I waited with my daughter and another 11 year old friend . We’ve all seen Mary off before. The last farewell was when they moved from Chiang Mai back to Europe. About 15 people saw them off, and we were all sobbing. It was awful. We didn’t cry yesterday. But we were all sad because we probably won’t see her till next year. Thats just an awfully long time. I still hate farewells.
Even though Chiang Mai Airport is small, you still see alot of different nationalities. I don’t enjoy seeing people say good bye. Thai people try not to display emotions in public but at farewells they aren’t so successful. Last pictures are taken, quick touch of hands, back rub, smile and tears. Small last minute gestures. Just seeing people saying good-bye makes me sad. Again, and you’ll probably read this a million times on my blog.. but I hate good-byes.

I hate good-byes, too. Way too many tears at the airport.
It’s much more fun to watch the arrivals, the huge smiles, the big hugs, and the *happy* tears. =)
Great post! I know all about those goodbyes as well:)
I much prefer short goodbyes rather than long goodbyes
