Shopping Hours in Switzerland
Aug 4th, 2006 by Lillian
Coming from Thailand, I find it really hard to adjust to all the opening hours…. there are however, some shops at the trainstation in Bern which are open longer. But I have yet to find something like 7-11 in Thailand which is open 24 hours 7 days a week.
Bern’s shops are open 6 days a week. The following opening hours generally apply:
Monday: 14.00 - 18.30 hours
Some department stores open at 09.00 hours
Tuesday - Friday: 09.00 - 18.30 hours
Thursday: Late-night until 21.00 hours
Saturday: 08.00 - 16.00 hours
Sunday: Closed all day except shops at the main railway station

Shopping Hours in Switzerland
nice..
Wow, it is hard to believe that stores don’t open at all on Sundays. I wonder if they are giving up a lot of revenue that way? The late opening on Mondays is interesting too. If I were a shopkeeper I would definitely want to work in Bern!
I always forget that the day before a holiday - which is called a Sunday - is a saturday. So when August first fell on a Tuesday the shops closed at 4pm on Monday as if it had been a Saturday! Very hard to remember…
Stores became allowed to be open til 20:00 on Sats in Germany in 2003.
