Guess what happened this morning. Its awful its horrible and I’m still shaking. There was a snake in my Son10s bed. A SNAKE. It wasn’t long my husband says but to me, 50 cm is huge. My Son felt it slither over his neck and grabbed it threw it away (towards me) I shouted while the boys said, its a snake its a snake. Son6 thought it was very exciting and completely forgot his daily ”I don’t want to go to school, I hate school” whine. The snake slithered under the shelves. My husband came to the rescue, I got the bush knife and it took us 30 min to find it again. It finally went out the balcony and my daughter, who was downstairs said ”its here it here.”
The big questions are 1. How did it get in, 2. Are there any more. So, this morning I’ll really clean up the boys room.. please God don’t ever let there be another one.
What is is with us and snakes? Some people live here a long time and never seen one, and this isn’t the first time we have one in the house. Yes, we do have trees around our house, and I guess we will just have to cut them back even more.
In one week we had mice, tuu-kee, gekos, mosquitoes, little frogs and now a snake in our house. We live in freaking ZOO. How on earth am I ever going to sleep tonight???
Ugh, that is horrifying. Terrible. What kind of snakes are they? Are they dangerous? Can you hire an expert to come and inspect your entire house–maybe they are coming in through some small hole that you can’t see. Maybe there are more of them in the walls or something. That is so hideous. How does your son10 feel? Ugh, what a horror.
Oh gosh…hang in there…I’m crossing my fingers that no other critters crawl into your house!
Welcome to the jungle! I’m HORRIFIED of the Jingjoks (little white ones) and more so of the Tookkae (big ugly scaley yellow eyed ones). Being in the city, I have seen 2 snakes in the wild on our property. One was the green garden variety. The other was the poisonous yellow-and-black one. The gardener at the time took care of both.
We have mostly JJs but occasionally we ran into the baby TKs around the house. We did have at least one big one somewhere on the property as we could hear its signature calls every night.
My poor maid, trying to be brave for us, would perform the “spray, catch, and release” on these creatures if they wander inside the house.
My suggestion, get a cat. We had a population of stray cats that congregated in the condo next door. The staff there feed them. Since they have become a permanent fixture of the neighborhood, the population of JJs had gone down noticably. At least that’d solve one problem.
Snakes horrify me! How on earth did the 50 cm snake get into the room? Maybe you should really cut back the trees even more. I think we had this snake moving around the washing area once… my nanny almost died of heart attack. In a way it is funny, but mostly it’s way too scary to even mention.
Hope things work out soon, so you won’t be living a zoo.
Wow, that’s bad! We’ve seen 3 snakes outside since we arrived in May, but never one in the house! Our worst experience was a spider as big as my hand. I’d rather deal with that than a snake. Hope you don’t get anymore!
How absolutely horrible, I’m sooo sorry for T. and you all. I really hope this was just a single stray one and there won’t ever be another one! I’ll be thinking of you all as you go to bed tonight!
That would freak me out a bit I think! There used to be a big rat snake that was seen in my garden from time to time when I lived in Hong Kong. Fortunately I never met it!
Brushes with Nature in Bangkok
For one of the first times after moving to Bangkok, I have a growing feeling that I am a part…
I think life is pretty similar in the Philippines. Lot of animals around. Saw a small snake in the kitchen but hopefully I will never find one in bed…
I guess there is not much you can do.
There is a local company “spraying” my house and garden (with a white smoke) every two months. That way we got rid of mouses, rats and cockroaches.
Shit yeah, snakes are bad but spiders are worse! So are stag beetles and the ants. Haven’t you had ant problems? It seems like ever since I got to Asia I’ve had ants in my bed and in my laptop… and that’s in the nicer hotels too sometimes.
Spiders drive me nuts but I’ve seen some really beautiful ones here. The thing is that spiders can crawl into almost anything whereas snakes are big and easy to grab and kick and don’t hang upside down…
One question though, what exactly are “Jingjoks” and “Tookkae”?
lizard like things…no idea what the english word is.. get up to 20 cm…
That’s nothing, I sleep with snakes, i once had to eat a snake because i was starving!! and it was alive!!!
WOW! cant believe there were- SNAKES IN YA BED!
Hope ur recovering over it. Also- you posted this 1 year ago, how does it feel to already pass that?
Also Penguin are you that guy who goes by the name Penguin-Man who eats and sleeps with snakes. Ive always wanted to meet and greet you! Well, Hi!!!
also i once saw a spider the size of a poodle! but it was in my dreams……… I fell rejected, i have no friends, who wants to be my friend??
Snakes are a beautiful creature. Most likely it was hunting any rodents or frogs you have previously have had in your house.
