A mouse in the house, in Chiang Mai

I just told my Son6 this story… I wish it wasn’t true…
Once upon a time, there was a little mouse in our house. He found a great little spot to hide, right under the ceiling. He had also found a great way to get in and out. Through a big gap, right near the stairs. One evening he felt very brave and even came out. It just HAD to get some of the pasta which someone must have glued to a frame. Why would humans do that? The little mouse had no idea but was very thankful . So, on that evening when he was feeling very brave, he went down a few steps and suddenly came face to face with a small human. He wasn’t small, really, he was much much taller than the little mouse. The mouse almost had heart attack and ran back into his hiding place. Back into the darkest corner he went, and was sure the humans couldn’t see him. He saw the bright light they were using to find him, but after a while the light went away.
But then something awful happened. The hole got blocked. That wicked human had stuffed it !!! He heard voices saying ” its ok son , the mouse won’t come out tonight”. The mouse felt very sorry for himself, locked up in the dark.
After a couple of nights the humans opened the gap again. So, the mouse came out. But this time a very very big human saw the little mouse eating rice in the cupboard. Again, the gap under stairs got closed.
This didn’t bother the little mouse. He found a cosy spot to sleep, in a draw where the humans kept the tea towels.
Unfortunately, the humans found him in the morning. If he hadn’t been soo scared he would have enjoyed it. They screamed when they saw him! All except the little boy, who he had met face to face before. He was quiet. Again the mouse tried to hide, and was terrified by something shaking. Maybe this was the end of the world? The humans had closed the draw.
Many hours later the little mouse heard voices again. These were different voices…very deep and friendly. Was he about to be rescued? Something to do with Pest Control.Maybe they would deal with those humans. He felt the draw open, a hand come down on him and everything went black.
And, if he’s hasn’t died yet, he’ll live happily ever after.
The End
p.s.. for the grown up reader, the mouse died a sudden and instant death. The man from Pest Control has become my hero . It was a bit mean of him to pretend to throw it at me once it was dead, but it was all very ’sanuk’. Non the less, he is my hero.

So what kind of uninvited guests do you get in your house?
Once I lived in a very, very old timber frame house and the mice had chewed their way in through the air con pipe. I didn’t call pest control. It didn’t even occur to me. Instead I lay down traps… it was HORRIBLE. I couldn’t sleep at night in case I heard the trap snap. Anyway, the first death that I had to deal with left me all shakey and all it was a cute little mouse that I’d just murdered. So after that one I decided to get ‘humane’ traps so that you catch them and then release them somewhere far away from your house. Instead they suffocated inside the traps. How horrendous is that?! So, I went back to the regular snap traps. Not an experience I’d like to go through again!!
I think we should call some people from the pest control to our house too. It’s turning into a freaking zoo over here. I swear I saw an oversize mouse running around.
