Earthquake in Chiang Mai
Dec 14th, 2006 by Lillian
Two nights ago I woke up with a terrible fright. An earthquake! We heard the typical ‘roaring’ sound and the house shook. Not very strongly but still scary. Apparently it was a 4,7 on the Richter Skale and it was 15 km out of Chiang Mai. (I don’t know if any damage was done…)
I’m terrified of earthquakes but my husband was quite excited. He’s slept through all the other earthquakes here, but this one, this was his first. He said, wow, there really is a roaring… I couldn’t resist a ” I told you !!!” Its always different to experience something yourself isn’t it
If Chiang Mai would get hit by a stronger earthquake, just hope you’re not in a shopping mall….

Sounds serious. I’ve never heard of this before, is it common in Chaing Mai?

Not like in Basel, made by ourselves?
Roger, Max and Mel.. they are real earthquakes and it does occur occasionally. Mel, why would you cancel your trip? go ahead, visit Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.
I never actually experience an earthquake. Ur hubby sounds like a very heavy sleeper.
yes, I was staying at the D2 hotel in Chiang Mai on the 12th. Around 11:40pm, while I was lying on the couch watching tv, felt the coach shaked, then saw the window blind moving like from left to right. I was feeling abit dizzy then, dont know what to respond. Never thought that it was an earthquake for a sec, then I realized that I was experiencing my first earthquake encounter in my life.
The next morning, I talkedto the hotel staff. One girl said she felt the shake also, and the hotel manager said it was unusual for this to happen in Chiang Mai
