Wow, so many international schools in such a small place. They’re popping up all over Bangkok in abundance too. Having looked at quite a few of them there is definitely a big gap between the best and the worst and the cheapest and most expensive.
Hi there!
My name is Rachel. I’m 27 years old, and really wanting to come live in Chiang Mai, learn the language and find work here (i guess initially as an English teacher, although maybe one day I will be able to work as a pharmacist which is what i am currently doing in NZ).
My question is, what do you think would be the best way of finding a homestay family in Chiang Mai? I want to live with a family so that i can practise speaking Thai. Do you know any lovely families that would want to have a boarder? I would be able to help their children with their English homework!
Anyway, if you have any advice, please let me know!
Rachel what some people have done is gotten a thai family to live with through the school they were working at. If you want to teach the children english you will be speaking english, and not thai … best way to learn is language school and then get thai friends…btw.. To learn good thai go to Isaan provence or somewhere where there are no farang.. haha
Lot of international schools. Are they really international?
Sidney, yes they are international. Even if there are alot of thai students, the teachers are all from overseas.
Thanks a lot Lillian!
At Prem we take pride in not only recruiting teachers who are internationally experienced, but also experienced IB teachers. In addition to being a recognised IB World School, we are also about to go through the final stages of CIS and NEASC accreditation.
Max replied that there is a big gap between the best and the worst intl schools. How do I find out about ratings and satisfaction?
We will be moving to Chiang Mai in August 07 and will be putting our girls in one of the intl schools. Any advice on how to choose? Thanks
Hi Shelly. How to choose? For many money is an issue as the price of some of the schools are really high. The best is to get an appointment with the schools you like, after looking at their webpage, and go and visit them. Unfortunately there is no short cut to this. Good luck.
Thanks for the list of international schools in Chiang Mai! Do you know if you can enroll your child for free if you are teaching at these schools? I am looking at teaching and have an 8 year old son so this would be ideal if possible.

Hello,Lillian:
It is very nice of you to offer so many information about international school in Chiang-Mai.
I am a Chinese teacher of TCIS(Thai Chinese International School ) in Bangkok. Do you know is there any Chinese Language program in Chiang Mai’s international school. I have been thinking about moving to Northern Thailand .
By the way , I am from Taiwan not China. I know Thai government has good relationship with mainland China. So we don’t have as many opportunities as Chinese people.
If you have any information abut this , please let me know. Thank you.
Happy Songkran .
