Resort and dirty water..

My Son10 has been sick for ALOT, since the time we were at the resort. Suan Bua actually. Remember I wrote about it? We all (except my husband) had vomiting and diarrhea. I thought we had food poisoning… well, it turns out that almost all the groups that have been up there since then have ALL had the same illness, vomiting and diarrhea. Someone must have alerted the Health Ministry or something because some officials went up and confirmed that a water source was contaminated. Because the level of the water tank sunk, something was able to sicker into the water.
Contaminated with what? hmmm next question
Is the resort closed down for maintenance? hmmm next question
Is it safe for me to go to that resort? hmmm next questions.

That’s worrying. Is there no way of finding out what it was? Are you all recovered now? No lasting problems? Probably sewage of some description, sorry about that. Hope you all get well soon.

Lillian - I hope everyone gets well. Its important to point out to readers (and potential visitors) the need for extreme care using water here even if NOT “officially” contaminated.
When you shower make sure you don’t swallow any water. The same applies to teeth brushing - its best to use bottled water even for that.
Thailand has taken great strides to clean up its mains water supply in recent years but it is still dangerous to assume it is safe. This applies equaly to 5 star hotels as it does to bungalow beach resorts etc.
NEVER drink water from the taps and avoid drinks with ice in them unless you are sure the ice comes from a pure source.
At the roadside noodle stalls you wil often be given a bottle of water and also a tin cup with crushed ice. Drink the bottled water by a means but do not pour over the ice whcih will be made from tap water. if they give you water direct in the cup, don’t drink it - go the 7/11 and buy a bottle or carry some with you.
I used to stay at Suan Bua a lot when I was teaching at the school there. I got sick everytime I ate there. After getting sick three times that was it. Never ate there again and advise anyone to avoid the place.
