Chiang Mai SMOG

AGAIN..

I know.. its getting boring but it is a problem. Can’t believe what I read today in Bangkok Post... Officials had been searching for sources of smoke and found that Korean Bulgogi, a chain of outdoor barbecue restaurants, was a major source of smoke in northern cities, he said.
”We will soon ask these restaurants to reduce the smoke from their barbecue stoves. Although this would only be able to reduce a small amount of the smoke, we will have to do it to improve air quality,” Mr Puchong said.
VERY small amount. Its a huge problem and calls for drastic measures. Sometimes I wonder if the local people know how damaging the smoke is. I took these pictures today.. the burning goes on. And obviously this is not a BBQ…. but burning rubbish bags. (I’ll write more tomorrow about Air quality)

How bizarre, to blame the smoke on Korean Bulgogi! Anyway, bulgogi is delicious. It will be hard to decide which to sacrifice, clean air or bulgogi.
Priceless!!
BBQ is the source of all the world’s problems. BBQ killed JFK.
How awful. It sure isn’t only the Korean BBQ and you might have to send your pictures to the newspaper, to prove it. I appreciate the fresh air we have here all the more. I hope it will get better soon.
Is there a Korean BBQ outlet on Doi Suthep? The flames were amazing to see all last week, burning up the mountain side and the surrounding smaller mountains. Pity I cannot see them this week, its too smoggy!
Did you catch the piece written on another blogs site, http://rsnis.wordpress.com/2007/03/12/chiang-mai-air-pollution
This blog is written by a 15 year old student I know and speaks volumes. What a shame some of the intelligence of this bright young lady isn’t possessed by some of the over paid & over respected big people that travel in convoys of 20 cars & mini buses ( only half full & burning up even more resoures!)
Rant over!
