seat61 is a great site. I discovered it a few years ago and have spoken with the guy who is behind it, really nice guy and very helpful. He loves his trains. In the press it said his site has more information about trains in Egypt than the Egyptian authorities (online).

Train back to Europe, wonderful! Why not try the other route; India, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey etc - probably more of a risk but I would guess very interesting. The daughter and I might e a similar thing across Europe later this year.
