Apr 7th, 2007 by Lillian
The Thai government banned Youtube. THE THAI GOVERNMENT BANNED YOUTUBE. thethaigovermentbannedyoutube. The THAI government banned youtube. Yes, its banned. No, I can’t even SEE any of your posts with youtube. We are struggling with the smog here in Chiang Mai and they BAN YOUTUBE. So much for Amazing Thailand….Go and read what the Lost Boy wrote about the ban…
hours later….
Now I’ve had some more time to think about this I still find it hard to believe. But I also find that respecting cultures is important! Even on the internet. The clip is very offensive and Thai people really love their King. I explained to my daughter12 how in this country you must respect the King, and not talk bad about him and how in England anyone can write anything about the Queen and Royal Family. Her answer was, Mum if the people don’t respect them,we treat them they are like ordinary people. After all, they are Kings and Queens. hmmmm Actually, wouldn’t it be good if we all criticized abit less. How many people have been hurt by negative comments on a blog, by bad journalism in news papers, on TV, lies in magazines etc etc. I know, I’m sometimes fast to criticize and I’m trying to change ! Oh, Before I stop writing.. I’m embarrassed the man put in jail for 10 years is swiss. No, I don’t know him and what he did was wrong. Swiss people generally have respect for the country and culture they are visiting. He apparently didn’t. Just had to get that off my chest..

It does seem like a knee jerk reaction to ban You tube because one person misused it. It would be like banning all cars beacuse one ran through a red light.
Banning You Tube or other internet protals is as bad behavior as painting the kings poster black. But one act gets 10 years prison the other is legal.
How stupid people must be to feel still free in this world.
Here I will show you an example from spiegel online about this case:
“Die Firma habe mit dem thailändischen Kommunikationsminister Sitthichai Pookaiyaudoom geredet, erklärte YouTube-Sprecherin Julie Supan der Nachrichtenagentur AFP. Dieser habe gesagt, dass die Techniker seines Ministeriums nicht wüssten, wie sie einzelne Videos blockieren könnten. Daher sei das Portal komplett gesperrt worden….”

I hope they don’t block you blog now
Joe
I am sure there are some proxies you can use to get through the ban. They could have instead just flagged the clips in question as offensive rather than banning the whole site.
Asian countries still have to learn a lot about democracy!
I know I am late with this info but for everybody who likes to check YouTube anyway just use this Proxy service.

But it a little slow.
What rude Wan#$% is arogent enouh to make such a video showing the king & feet … As feet are considered offensive to be seen in the same picture.. the producer of the video clip knew he was insulting the king & Thai people when he made it… Sooo to this person I say F*#% You & I hope a 1000 flies off a camels ass fly up your noise !
OOo I forgot to say You Tube Videos can still be seen in Thailand @ www.youtubeproxy.org
they should stop blocking it already since they’ve removed the video long ago.
