How to do the dishes in Chiang Mai
Apr 25th, 2007 by Lillian
Well, you can laugh but some people farang, who visit us need to be told how to do the dishes. They find it really strange that we used cold water. No we don’t have a dish washer or a hotwater. We wash the dishes under running water with washing up soap. Then I just let them dry on the rack. I don’t dry them with a towel. Yes, yes the dishes get clean. For some visitors its hard to let some habits go so they boil water, and then wash the dishes like that.If you want to do dishes at my house, please let me know ![]()

Here in Vietnam, I do our dishes in a similar fashion, but I simply can’t let go of the “hot water kills germs” and I used the hot water from the bathroom to wash the dishes, then rinse them in the cold-water-only kitchen sink. Of course, it makes it easier here because the show is literally 5 feet from the kitchen sink. Ah, the joys. After rinsing, the dishes go on a rack on dry there.
“….We wash the dishes under running water with washing up soap. Then I just let them dry on the rack….”
Is there any other way? I’ve been here too long Ha ha!! Would I change it? No!
