Do’s and Don’t in Thailand… criticize
May 2nd, 2007 by Lillian
Don’t criticize everything Thai ! If you are asked if you like the traditional thai music for example, you can answer like one volunteer we had.. no I hate it.. or you can say something appreciative, like they really play that instrument well, or it must be difficult to do that. You don’t have to lie and say you love it but try to appreciate the different culture !

That’s a good advice. I try to be diplomatic but I found out that some tourists can be downright rude. They think they are being honest but their hosts might not think so.
Personally I can’t stand Thai music. I would tell someone I don’t know I hate it, just that I don’t like it. Don’t see the point of pretending to appreciate it when I clearly don’t. Thai people have told me that they hate English food, or even England and I didn’t take offence. I often find that foreigners in Thailand are more sensitive about Thai culture than most Thais.
Adam diplomatic is the word I was looking for.. Max..hmmm probably right about being too sensitive about Thai culture…. always depends. Thats the problem with these -do’s and don’ts Always depends on who and what situation are you in….
