Thai Culture Tips…

Don’t pat people on the head as this is considered very disrespectful although, patting a child on the head seems to be accepted… Before you get your hair washed or cut you might notice the lady say ’sorry’. She is showing respect and apologizing for touching your head.
As for touching in public, in Chiang Mai you will see couples sitting really close on motorbikes and maybe holding hands in a mall but I really can’t remember seeing a couple kiss in public …Asians generally don’t display physical closeness or body contact to loved ones in public places and foreigners are encouraged to follow suit.. Ok, this one is really hard. Even in discos and bars you won’t really see Thais touching. (ok bar girls, prostitutes not included.. I’m talking about the avarage thai couple…) This is good if your love language isn’t physical touch but if it is.. well.. this rule is just plan hard to keep. Loosen up already haha
