Water to have and not to have….
Jul 7th, 2005 by Lillian
I spent 2 days in a village, in the north of Thailand. I finally got to visit one of the villages my husband works in ! Its a village with about 20 families. They belong to an ethnic group called Lahu. ( I’ll write more another time about that)
Anyway, I came to appreciate water again. In that village they have one well which has water but its not enough for all the villagers. So we went to have our shower in the neighbouring village. When I say shower, I’m not thinking of a tiled bathroom with hot and cold water. Luckily this was a closed room with a big tub filled with water. What you do is scoop water in a little bowl or plastic container and pour it all over yourself. Men and women usually do this in their sarong and the kids splash around naked. Its always hard keeping the clothes clean seeing there are no shelves or places to hang your clothes
When I got home I had a loooong shower and today I took my son swimming. I wonder what those village kids would say if they saw a swimming pool !!!!!
I’m so glad I have running water in my kitchen and bathrooms !!!!
