Getting a coffee
Jul 10th, 2007 by Lillian
The other day I was at a mall with the kids. My husband and I wanted to get a Latte at a coffee shop. There are about 3 signs.. Latte hot/cold take away. 64 Baht. Great.. we’ve gotten coffee there before no problem. But my husband did say that last week they didn’t have milk but, we know it can happen that shops run out of things and we didn’t think about it. So we ordered 2 Latte. The sales person smiled at us and said.. ‘’sorry, no have.” Ok so we smiled and said.. Oh you don’t have milk etc etc smiled and my husb. went off to an other shop, while I stayed back. Would you believe it, the other shop was out of milk too, and someone quickly went to Tops to buy milk and we ended up getting our Latte. In the west, this just doesn’t happen? Does it? or have I just been here to long that I forget. But here in Thailand, you can go to a Pizzeria and they don’t have Pizza, coffee shop with no coffee or a gas station with no gas. Believe me.. its all happened to me. Planning ahead can be challenging ![]()

Ah yes, ‘mai mii - no have’. Sometimes it’s frustrating, but hey, it’s all part of the experience. Like you say, it makes planning ahead difficult but that’s just one of the many differences between the Thai and Western psyche. I still know where I’d rather be.
Yes I can believe it. I went to Thai food restaurant with friends. We ordered food, we get everything, the fish, the salads, the curry but we didn’t get rice. After waiting untill the food was cold, we ask the waitress, did you forget the rice for us?
She smiled and answered. No have - finished!
In an expensive, fancy looking restaurant. So I believe everything in this matter.
I went to a restaurant in Bern last week at 4pm, asked for a Latté and the response was “nicht haben Milch jetzt”. At least the guy said it with a smile and I found my latté around the next corner. So not all is different in Switzerland
LOL! Well, German supermarkets can be like that sometimes. If you go maybe an hour before closing time on a Saturday half of their stock may be gone, things like eggs or onions that you think they would always have.
I LOVE COFFEEE!!!!
That’s totally crazy. Maybe they except everyone to drink Espresso.
Just soo Thailand! Annoying!
You forgot one Lillian !!
The toilets without paper!
Now there is a nightmare to plan ahead for.
